Barby Reservoir (Northamptonshire)

Project: Barby Reservoir, Roof Waterproofing
Client: JN Bentley Ltd

The project:
The Barby Storage Reservoir in Northamptonshire, owned and operated by Severn Trent Water, supplies drinking water to the town of Rugby, fed by water pumped from Draycote Reservoir. This crucial reservoir and water source required structural waterproofing to its roof and perimeter upstands, of which APA Concrete Repairs Ltd were appointed to implement.

The solution:
APA were required to provide the application of a proprietary self-adhesive waterproof sheet membrane to the reservoir roof and perimeter upstands. Concrete surfaces were first thoroughly prepared, before a Premseal 100 waterproofing sheet membrane was applied and secured to the entirety of the reservoir roof, upstands and adjacent structure. A Sika Combiflex system was also installed to both faces of joints through the centre dividing wall of the reservoir, to prevent leakage between the reservoir tanks.

The outcome:
The provision of the waterproofing systems provided the much-needed protection that this reservoir roof required. Being the main source of drinking water for the town of Rugby, it was essential that this project was completed on time and with minimal disruption to the reservoir’s daily activity, and thanks to APA’s experience and efficiency in the application of sheet membranes, this requirement was successfully achieved.
